President's Welcome

Denver Council, Navy League of the United States

Dear New Member:

Welcome to the Denver Council of the Navy League. As a member of our local council, you will be supporting our programs in Denver and throughout Northern Colorado. This web-site provides information on what we do, when it occurs, and how you can take part in our activities.

Acknowledging the achievements of the men and women of our local Navy commands is of great importance to this council. To do so, we present “Sailor of the Year” and “Blue Jacket of the Year” awards to sailors from the Naval Operation Support Center Denver, NAVIOCOM Colorado at Buckley Air Force Base, and the Naval Recruiting District Denver.

Educating the public and our elected officials on the importance of sea power to the national defense is a major commitment taken on by this council. Visiting Colorado’s Congressional delegation, to present the case for keeping our nation safe through the maintenance of our sea services, is a major part of this effort. Bringing outstanding speakers to our general meetings to provide insights into current defense issues also serves the education agenda of the council and stimulates discussion of these vital issues.

Supporting the Lexington Division Sea Cadet unit is part of our commitment to youth activities that develop genuine self esteem and leadership skills. In order to inspire patriotism and a sense of respect for those who serve, we present American flags, which have been flown over the USS ARIZONA memorial, to schools in the Denver area.

Opportunities to network with community leaders, and meet people who share your concern for the men and women who serve our country are also benefits of your membership in our council. You may want to become more actively engaged in advancing our goals by joining one of our committees.

The council holds general membership meetings at the Denver West Marriott in January, March, May, September, and November. We always try to schedule these dinners on the third Thursday of the month. The dinner schedule, reservation forms, and information about other council activities will be posted on this web-site.

Completing the new member survey found on this page, will help you to assess your specific interests and provide insights which will help us to improve our programs.

We are happy that you have become a part of the Navy League, and look forward to seeing you at a future activity.

Sincerely,

Steve Kelly
President-Denver Council
